Reid might prefer the left , but Ogbonna is the best central defender we've had in a long, long time, in my humble.
Having him on the bench is ludicrous.

Alex V you are the kind of person who if he had an orgasm would analyse before after and during and forget about he orgasm itself.
The subtle difference of how long and how deep Carroll was playing has no consequence whatsoever, try getting excited just on this result and join in the temporary ecstasy we are all feeling at the moment, like an orgasm you may even enjoy it

>>> Or maybe Carroll just run out of legs and was unable to keep up.

Very true. It might be as bizarre as that. It's very hard to work out what did change in the second half, and whether it was by design or just random. We just suddenly found the space and circumstance to score three goals. I'd like to know the answer though.

One answer is SG's suggestion that we simply 'tried more' in the second half - obviously you get a gee up in the dressing room but I don't think that fully explains it. I think we often confuse succeeding for trying, and failing for 'not trying'. At this level I think every player 'tries', it's just that other factors determine whether it is effective or not.

Bell - it's because Fonte plays on the right of Reid. Oggy is a left footer and Reid prefers the left. Question of balance.

Wembley is a shithole but even that poxy walk back to the station didn’t matter last night.

How Fonte gets a game ahead of Ogbonna is beyond me.

I guess that you wouldn't be able to relate to that though from your leather sofa.

Good post - I also felt that Carroll may have played a bit deeper in the second half, though the difference was really quite subtle. And Lanzini definitely pushed forward a bit more, though that was very obviously something he needed to do. Maybe it was the difference between 3-5-2 in the first half and 3-4-3 in the second?

dicksie... what I am hearing from them is that they almost hate Wembley as much as we hate the Cesspit... find it an absolute chore to get to on a regular basis especially teh Essex mob... believe it or not we was the `small fry' fixture inbetween 4 big games for them... like I said I don't know one Spurs boy that went last night

"' but in reality 36,000 fans for a midweek third-tier domestic cup competition is pretty sensational going."'

In reality it's a second-tier domestic cup competition, but why would the Guardian let the facts get in the way of a story?

36k a great crowd for a London derby against one of your main rivals (after Arsenal and, for some, Chelsea)?!

Hahaha! Fucking embarrassing.

Cheap ticket prices as well and nearly 5k of the crowd were our fans and there must have been hundreds of ours amongst the Home stands too.

We got 35k Vs Bolton and 39k Vs Accrington (last season), for fuck's sake.

They only got 23k Vs Barnsley and 26k Vs Gillingham last year.

Fucking fair-weather wankers...

They'll boast about getting 80k+ Vs Real Madrid next week - but so would fucking we if we played them at Wembley in the Champions League.

Our support shits all over theirs and every other club in London.

I know a few Spurs season ticket holders.... I don't know one that went last night... however a couple did give up their tickets for a couple of hammers...

According to the guardian

" but in reality 36,000 fans for a midweek third-tier domestic cup competition is pretty sensational going."

Oh really??? We got that in the last round and got over 50k last year.

This was a London derby. We were only given 5k we'd have sold 20k away if we'd been given the tickets. At least

Such a crazy game! Second half it’s not like we played great football, but we got about them & won second balls.

Just goes to show what a bit of fight & desire can do. I pray we go to Palace on the front foot & show that same desire.

Noble probably told Ayew he knows a firm of Paddy builders who specialise in converting surplus assets into speedbumps for Council cash.

I'd like to know what happened to Ayew at half time.

Came out like a man possessed, hungry for the ball and was chasing everything down.

Re: ⚽ Spurs v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 2-3
Looking back the really pleasing thing to me was the team actually demonstrated some heart, resolve, some fight in the dog etc. Spurs quite frankly were strolling it and like our home game against Watford last season where we thought we were home and hosed at 2-0 up ( and tbh a little bit cheeky to Watford ) the team behind started to compete and the team in front was caught napping.

Now we need that spirit to be carried over in to PL games.
